How Our Sea Glass Beads Are Made
Our powder glass beads are made by crushing glass to a fine powder and heating it so that the particles fuse together. The glass is then poured into clay molds, with a cassava leaf stem used to make the hole. They are baked in an oven and the glass fuses and the cassava stem burns up. This technique has been used in Africa for centuries. These beads have bubbles, cracks or minor divots as they are meant to mimic natural sea glass. Our beads are sourced directly using fair trade practices to assist developing communities throughout Africa.
WE GIVE BACK.
10% of the proceeds from the sale of our glass beads will be donated to Her Future Coalition, a grassroots nonprofit that provide shelter, education, and high-wage employment to survivors of human trafficking and extreme abuse so that they may remain forever free. Her Future Coalition (formerly operating as Made by Survivors) has been providing shelter, education and high-quality employment to survivors of human trafficking and extreme abuse for over a decade. They have helped over 2000 survivors and their families become free and independent, in India, Nepal, Cambodia, and Thailand.
